How I Learned My Lesson: A Blog

ROCK N’ ROLL STAR

Glitter. Struggle. Smash my forehead on the keys. Shake loose the inspiration and the resolve and get them rattling again. Three years of this. Another book, a bigger one, about a bigger subject, now about to come out. This won’t be a blog about the big subject but it will likely continue to use the big subject as a postman’s key; the one that gets you into all the doors. I will write about the Bowie book, about the news, about other rock n’ rollers I’m sure. I’ll probably write about turning 40, and maybe even 41. A basset hound is clawing at my left arm right now. I will write about basset hounds (two of them). I’m still not sold on blogging. I sometimes feel like Sterling Hayden in Dr. Strangelove. I worry about wasting all the creative “fluids” on something that’s not going to be printed but three years and about 200,000 words since I last blogged about anything (myspace) and about twenty five thousand of those words will never be read so who knows. It’s probably good to be back doing this again. When i started Bowie there was no Twitter or Facebook. By the time i finish the next one (secret but i will post about it here i am sure, among recipes and soon to be tedious basset anecdotes, or trivia about famous basset owners…like Scott Walker) who knows how we will be communicating with each other. trading heads, like that old Denis Leary bit about the Jacksons at Christmas. Anyhow… Don Music. I feel you.
